Amina Baktiyarova.

Teaching, mentoring, and building open research projects of my own.

Currently based in Astana, working in Russian, English, and German.

Students in white coats working with microscopes at a school laboratory bench, one of them in an NIS Oskemen alumni sweatshirt. Arizona State University certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. A student in school uniform at a classroom desk, looking towards the front of the room. Education

Graduated from Nazarbayev Intellectual School in 2022, on a scholarship. NIS schools admit by competitive entrance examination and run a heavier, more demanding programme than the standard national curriculum in Kazakhstan.

Lived and studied in Germany for four years, and now continuing my studies in the United States.

Took part in academic programmes at Stanford University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Massachusetts, each on a full scholarship.

Research

I have worked in chemistry since 2018, starting with an experimental project in secondary school on removing dye from textile production wastewater, which was published and received a diploma at an international student research competition.

Three open research projects are underway now.

  • Tuberculosis drug resistance

An open, versioned resource measuring how mutations shift bedaquiline and clofazimine MICs in tuberculosis. Data tables and software released in October 2026.

  • Kazakh biomedical language

The first open Kazakh biomedical text resource, with named entity recognition and terminology mapping.

  • Central Asian medicinal plants

A computable knowledge base of the chemistry and traditional use of medicinal plants from a region global databases barely cover.

Teaching and mentorship

I have taught and mentored applicants since 2021, first tutoring peers and younger students, then leading exam preparation and admissions work at online schools and language centres. I hold a TESOL certificate from Arizona State University and an IELTS band of 8.5, with 9.0 in Reading, Listening, and Speaking.

My students come from Kazakhstan, Europe, Asia, and the Gulf.
